What Does Botox Do to Your Face?

botox wichita

Lines and wrinkles are a natural result of the aging process, but you don’t have to live with them. Botox Wichita can relax away moderate-to-severe facial creases without invasive procedures or downtime. This versatile treatment can address concerns affecting many parts of the face. If you’re ready to look as young as you feel, you may benefit greatly from this injectable muscle relaxant at ICT Eye in Wichita, KS.

What Does Botox Do to Your Face?

Daily facial expressions and other muscle contractions lead to dynamic lines and wrinkles that eventually become permanent and worsen when the overactive muscles are used. Botox Wichita reduces the frequency of muscle contractions that cause wrinkles.

This is thanks to the A botulinum toxin protein binding to receptors in the muscles that receive communication from the brain to contract. Thanks to the customizability of the dosage, the final result is facial muscles that move freely when you want them to but are otherwise relaxed, leaving your skin smooth and free from dynamic wrinkles.

Areas That Can Be Treated Effectively

The Forehead

The forehead is the area most commonly targeted for Botox Wichita treatment because it is usually the first region of the face to display permanent dynamic wrinkles and lines.  Whether you have mild, moderate, or severe forehead folds, one treatment session with this powerful injectable muscle relaxant will leave your skin smoother, firmer, and healthier.

Between the Brows

Wrinkles that develop between the brows are often severe due to the strength of the glabellar muscles. However, these powerful, frequently used muscles are no match for Botox Wichita. Your glabellar lines will be erased with ease after just one treatment session.

Around the Mouth

Lines and wrinkles that form around the mouth, such as marionette lines or smoker’s lines, are another common concern area because the muscles around the mouth are used so frequently. Even if you’re not smiling, your mouth muscles are moving if you’re talking, singing, laughing, breathing in and out through your mouth, drinking, eating, and yawning. Luckily, this powerful A botulinum toxin can help. One injection session is all that is required to enjoy smooth skin around your mouth.

Other Areas of Concern

During your initial consultation, we will discuss all of your problem areas to identify the areas that can benefit from this injectable muscle relaxant. For example, this injectable is often used to treat nasolabial folds that are caused by muscle hyperactivity but cannot treat volume loss-related nasolabial folds effectively. Additionally, you may benefit from this injectable or a dermal filler if you wish to add volume to your lips.

FAQs Answered

Is This Treatment Painful?

No, this non-invasive treatment is not painful. You can enjoy relaxed muscles and wrinkle-free skin with nothing more than a convenient injection session. You will experience neither pain nor discomfort as the medication is administered or after treatment.

Is This Treatment Safe?

Yes, this treatment is so safe it has had FDA approval for decades. During your initial consultation, we will discuss your health history to determine if you are a good candidate for this injectable. If you are considered a good candidate, you do not need to worry about your safety during or after these injections.

Is This Treatment Effective?

Yes, this treatment is highly effective when used to erase dynamic wrinkles. It may sound too good to be true, but decades of use have proven it to do exactly what it claims to do.

Am I a Good Candidate for This Treatment?

For most healthy adults with dynamic wrinkles, this pain-free treatment is an ideal option.  It is effective regardless of skin tone or type, but we need to review your unique situation during your initial consultation to determine definitively whether this treatment is appropriate for you.

Is This Treatment Really Effective for Severe Wrinkles?

Yes, this treatment can really relax away the most severe dynamic facial wrinkles. This treatment is so effective because it treats the root cause of wrinkles. It is not a superficial treatment that temporarily enhances the appearance of the skin’s surface. In extreme cases, two treatment sessions will be necessary to smooth away deep wrinkles entirely. However, no wrinkles or folds are deep enough to remain after two injectable muscle relaxant sessions.

How Should I Prepare for This Treatment?

You don’t have to do too much to prepare for this non-invasive treatment.  You may maintain your usual skincare routine. However, we will advise you on whether you should stop taking certain medications, like sleep aids, oral muscle relaxants, or blood thinners, during your initial consultation.

If you are taking any of the aforementioned types of drugs, or other over-the-counter products that may affect your treatment, you only need to adjust your medications for a few days before treatment.

When Should I Expect To See the Final Results of My Treatment?

You should begin to see the results of your treatment within two to three days of your injection session. That said, it may take 10 to 14 days for the final results of this treatment to become apparent. Regardless of when your final results become apparent, there will be no pain or downtime following this injectable anti-aging treatment.

Will My Treatment Results Look Natural?

Yes, the results of your treatment will look completely natural. You will look like you did years ago. Your underlying facial structure is not changed. You just won’t have to worry about dynamic wrinkles anymore. Nobody will be able to tell you received a cosmetic treatment to look younger. To reiterate, all of your muscles will still have their full range of motion once your treatment is over. They simply won’t contract when you don’t want them to contract.

Can I Treat Multiple Areas During My Session?

Yes, you can absolutely treat several muscle groups during one treatment session.  For example, you don’t need to schedule three appointments if you want to treat crow’s feet around your eyes, glabellar lines between your brows, and nasolabial folds between your nose and mouth.

Regardless of the number of muscle groups you are concerned about, you can safely and effectively treat them all in one session if you have enough time. Additionally, if you would benefit from both Wichita Botox and dermal filler injections, both types of injectables can be administered during the same session.

How Durable Are the Treatment Results?

Individual experiences vary based on the age of the client and the severity of their dynamic wrinkles. That said, ideal results typically last between four and six months.  In mild-to-moderate cases, the results of treatment may last up to a year. In severe cases, the results of this treatment may only last three months. Once we have evaluated your unique concerns, we will advise you on how long you should expect your treatment results to last.

How Often Can I Get a Follow-Up Treatment?

You may continue enjoying natural-looking results if you receive follow-up treatments every four to six months. However, the results of this treatment last longer after repeated sessions. Eventually, you may benefit the most from coming in every nine to 12 months.

Can I Go Back to Work Once My Session Is Over?

You may return to work as soon as your session is over and we have reviewed your post-treatment care steps.  In fact, people commonly schedule this non-invasive treatment on their lunch break because there is no downtime required following the session and they don’t want to use PTO.

What Can You Expect From Dry Eye Treatment at ICT Eye?

Dry Eye Treatment
Dry eyes can be painful, distracting, and frustrating. Finding the right dry eye treatment can be overwhelming. Our team at ICT Eye in Wichita, KS, can work with you to find the relief you’ve been craving.

What Can You Expect From Dry Eye Treatment at ICT Eye?

A Non-Invasive Solution

We use iLux to treat dry eyes for our patients. It’s non-surgical, with treatments being carried out in our comfortable office space. During a consultation, we’d be happy to take a look at your unique situation and help you decide if iLux is the right call for you.

What Can It Treat?

Meibomian Gland Dysfunction

Commonly called MGD, meibomian gland dysfunction is one of the most common contributors to dry eyes. The meibomian glands help lubricate our eyes. They produce oils on both the upper and lower eyelids. These oils help fight off dryness.

MGD can cause these glands to not produce enough oils. Without the protection these oils provide, tears evaporate quickly and our eyes are left to dry out.

What Are the Symptoms of MGD?

Dry eyes are the most common symptom of MGD, but there are some other symptoms to look out for as well. These symptoms may include:

  • Irritated eyes, especially in the corners
  • Red or swollen eyelids
  • Glands that are swollen, or secreting mucus
  • Crusty eyes
  • Eyelashes that are wet and matted in the morning
  • Eyelashes that easily fall out
  • A burning sensation in the eyes

Diagnosing MGD

In addition to the possible symptoms, you can have your eyelids checked for MGD as well. MGD can cause your inner eyelid to look different than it would normally. If MGD is suspected, gentle pressure can be applied to your eyelid to see if any oils are released.

Another way dry eyes can be diagnosed is by measuring the volume of tears you’re producing. Blotting paper strips can be placed under your lower eyelid. The paper will soak up your tears, which can then be measured to see if your body is producing an appropriate level of moisture.

How It Works

Gentle Heat and Pressure

This treatment uses a handheld device. It delivers gentle pressure and heat to the eyelids, which helps the meibomian glands to unclog and open up. When the glands are unclogged, they’re able to do their job again. By treating the cause behind your dry eyes, the goal is to provide lasting relief.

Treatment Can Be Adjusted for Your Needs

We will have control over the heat and pressure iLux uses to deliver relief. This control allows us to adjust the levels as needed for each patient. If your case requires a little more heat or pressure, we can increase heat and pressure levels while always keeping the treatment safe and comfortable.

Safety That’s Been Proven

Our professional team holds your safety and comfort at the highest priority. This dry eye treatment is considered a safe and effective way to treat MGD. It is FDA-approved as well.

The special eyelid pad that iLux uses ensures that the treatment is applied right onto the blocked glands while protecting the rest of your eye at the same time. This also helps create an optimally comfortable experience.

Quick and Effective Makes for an Ideal Treatment

Both eyes can usually be treated in 12 minutes or less, making it an excellent option for patients with packed schedules. The first step will involve us taking a look at your eyelids to decide the ideal treatment zones. Your eyelid will then be held in iLux’s soft eyelid pads as light-based heat gently warms the blocked glands.

Once the glands release their trapped oil, your treatment will be complete. You can be on your way and go back to your daily routine.

Taking a Look at the Benefits

This treatment has proven itself a powerful dry eye treatment through both clinical study and practice. If a lack of oil production or a condition such as MGD is playing a role in your symptoms, iLux has the benefit of addressing the root of the issue instead of putting a band-aid over it. It can also offer an alternative to having the blockages surgically removed.

One of the most obvious benefits of treatment is allowing you to have better comfort. Helping your eyes be healthier now can also help their long-term health in the future.

Benefits for Contact Users

Can you feel your contact lens when they’re in your eyes? Are they causing discomfort or irritation? Patients with MGD may think that’s normal, but that doesn’t have to be the case.

Sometimes uncomfortable contacts can be caused by MGD, and by having it treated you may find you are able to comfortably wear contacts for longer than before.

Understanding Dry Eyes

Having dry eyes is a symptom, and there can be different causes behind it. Dry eyes may be caused by a lack of water, oil, or both!

Dry Eyes and Tear Production

There is a thin layer of tears coating our eyes. This layer is replenished with each blink. When it evaporates too quickly, this can lead to parts of our cornea becoming dehydrated. The tear film covering our eyes is roughly composed of three layers. When one part of this delicate balance in our eyes is thrown off, it can lead to dry eyes and other uncomfortable symptoms.

There’s the oil layer which is produced by the meibomian glands, the aqueous layer, and the mucous layer. The oil layer slows down the evaporation of our tears, which helps keeps our eyes healthy and moist. The aqueous layer helps provide nutrients for the cells of our eyes. Finally, the mucous layer is a natural lubricant for the eye’s surface.

Dry Eyes FAQ

1. When Should I Seek Out Dry Eye Treatment?

Dry eyes aren’t just uncomfortable. Untreated MGD can risk permanently damaging your glands. When you notice the painful symptoms that dry eyes can dish out, we recommend seeking out treatment as soon as possible. Keeping your glands healthy will help treatment be as effective as possible.

2. What Are the Risks of Waiting for Treatment?

Damaged glands can leave your eyes more susceptible to infection. It can also lead to a damaged or scarred cornea, which can negatively affect your vision over time.

3. Does Treatment Have To Be Repeated?

For patients with MGD, iLux is expected to relieve your symptoms for six months or more. How often you seek out treatment will depend on your individual needs. Appointments can be set on a more regular schedule, or you can seek us out if and when you feel like a follow-up treatment is necessary. Some patients are comfortable waiting for longer periods, while others prefer a more proactive approach.

Whatever your preference is, we’d be happy to work with you and set up the right routine for your lifestyle. We may also recommend a schedule based on how your eyes respond to Dry Eye Treatment and how severe your MGD symptoms are.

4. Are There Alternative Treatments?

At-Home Treatments

Some patients try to treat MGD at home by massaging their eyes with a warm compress. While this may offer some comfort and relief, it usually isn’t enough to effectively treat the problem or fully unclog your glands.

Gland Probing

Meibomian gland probing involves having your eyes numbed with eye drops, and then having your meibomian glands dilated and probed to remove the blockages. It’s effective, but it is more invasive.

Eye Drops

Eye drops can offer relief from some of the symptoms of MGD, but regular eyedrops aren’t considered a lasting solution and don’t solve the root of the problem.

Antibacterial eye drops are sometimes used to treat MGD. We’d be happy to go over some of the pros and cons of antibacterial eye drops for you when you come in for a consultation.

Supplements

Some supplements, such as omega-3 fatty acids, may be able to help improve the health of your meibomian glands. That said, they aren’t usually considered treatment by themselves.

5. What Else Can Cause Dry Eyes?

MGD is a common factor behind many dry-eye cases, but it isn’t the only factor. Aging, excessive screen time, windy environments, certain medications, pollution, and some medical conditions may all contribute to experiencing dry eyes. Even a lack of sleep can cause your eyes to be dry and irritated! If you’ve tried removing irritants and are still struggling, it may be time to seek treatment.

When we have a better idea of what is causing your dry eyes, we will be able to offer different ways you can support the overall health of your eyes. Improving the lives of our patients is our passion, so we’re ready to team up and help you in any way possible.

6. What Can I Do at Home to Protect My Eyes?

Protecting your eyes from the sun and from too much screen time can help reduce painful symptoms. This may look like limiting the time you spend on the computer, or wearing glasses that block blue light. Sometimes staring at a screen can reduce your blink rate, so you may have to remind yourself to blink more often when you’re in front of a screen.

Wearing sunglasses when you hit the beach can help protect your eyes from sun damage and from dryness. Proper hydration can be very helpful as well. If you’re dehydrated, you won’t be able to produce a healthy amount of tears.

Practice Good Contact Lens Hygiene

Sometimes contact lens hygiene can feel like a chore, especially after a long day. But poor contact lens hygiene can irritate the eyes.

Contact lens can harbor bacteria when they’re not properly cleaned. Be sure that you’re changing your solution each night, and cleaning your case as well. You should also check that your contact lens material is compatible with the cleaning solution that you use. Try not to leave your contacts in for longer than the recommended wear time.

7. What Should I Avoid?

Some eye drops can make things worse instead of helping matters. Certain eye drops that are designed to cover up red eyes may work by constricting the blood vessels in your eyes. By reducing their size, it makes your eyes look less red. However, once the effect wears off it can leave your eyes even dryer than before.

When you’re looking for allergy medicine, try to find an option that helps without drying your eyes out. Allergy eye drops may be helpful to treat itchy eyes without making them drier.

How Long Does It Take to Recover After Eyelid Surgery?

eyelid surgery

At Beautiful Eyes in Wichita, KS, we know that excess skin around the eye area can make you feel much older than you are. If the aging process, genetics, or other conditions have led to sagging and drooping skin around your eyes, we want to let you know that we have a solution that can help. We are proud to offer eyelid surgery, an effective procedure that will restore youth to your eyes, improve your vision, and give you the most beautiful eyes possible.

How Long Does It Take to Recover After Eyelid Surgery?

With every elective surgery comes a recovery period, and eyelid surgery is no different. Once you undergo eyelid surgery, you will immediately begin the recovery process. The total length of time that it takes to recover from this procedure varies from patient to patient based on their general health, age, and the type of procedure performed.

Additionally, your commitment to the recovery process and your willingness to follow all of the aftercare instructions also play a part in the length of your recovery. It can also affect how quickly your body heals. When you follow the necessary aftercare instructions, and get the proper rest and nutrition, you can rest assured that you will have the best possible outcome and will be able to enjoy your youthful-looking eye area as soon as possible.

The Recovery Process

After your surgery is complete, we will take some standard measures before discharging you and sending you home. We may apply anointment to the area to keep the skin from becoming too dry and bandages to the surrounding area as needed. Then, you will return home and rest. You will need someone to drive you home since the procedure requires that you receive general anesthesia for its duration.

Once you return home, you should begin testing as soon as possible. Enlisting help at home before your procedure is the best way to avoid having to check things off your to-do list when you really should be spending that time resting and recovering. We may prescribe you medication to help ensure optimal comfort during the recovery process. Taking this medication as directed will help promote the best recovery possible.

Taking Care of Your Eyelids

During your recovery process, you will need to keep your head elevated any time you lie down. You will also need to hold cold compresses on your eyelids to help promote healing. Since you may spend the first part of the recovery process resting your eyes, you should have music, podcasts, or audiobooks on hand that you can listen to during this time. This will give your mind something to focus on during rest periods as your eyes heal.

You may need to administer eye drops to your eyes during the first few weeks post-op. Following these instructions is a temporary requirement, but doing so will help you heal as quickly as possible. Before we discharge you, we will provide you with all of the instructions you need regarding medications and the application of eye drops.

Attending Follow-Up Visits

Once your procedure is over, we won’t just wish you well and send you on your way. We will schedule regular follow-up visits to check your eyelids and ensure that they are healing well. We will monitor your progress during the recovery period, remove any stitches that were put in during your procedure and answer any questions you may have or address any concerns about your recovery.

If you are faced with a question or concern, you can feel free to contact our office. Our experienced staff members will help provide you with the answers you need. We will walk with you through this entire process, from your initial consultation to your final follow-up appointment. Even after that appointment, we will always be here, ready to answer each and every question you may have.

The Eye Surgery Process

To begin this process, you will undergo an initial consultation at our office. Before scheduling eyelid surgery to address the appearance of your eyes and help you reach your aesthetic goals, we will need to examine your eyelids and eyes in person. We will review your medical history, discuss any health conditions you may have, and ask about any vision issues. Once we confirm that you are a candidate for this procedure, we will develop your treatment plan.

Different techniques can be used during eyelid surgery to improve the appearance of the eye area. We will discuss these different techniques during your consultation and help choose the best one for your needs. We will also talk about anesthesia, your procedure cost, and your ultimate goals.

The Different Techniques

We can take different approaches to eyelid surgery because every patient is different. Some patients want to address their upper eyelids, others want to change the appearance of their lower eyelids, and others want to address both areas. We can combine different techniques to help you reach your aesthetic goals.

Addressing the Upper Eyelids

When it comes to the upper eyelids, the most common concern is excess fat and skin. Our surgeon will create a very small incision in the crease of each upper eyelid to address these issues. He will remove that extra skin as well as any extra fat tissue or muscle that is negatively affecting your appearance.

Addressing the Lower Eyelids

The most common concern among patients who want to improve their lower eyelid area relates to under-eye bags. Both extra skin and extra fat below the eyes can create a puffy-looking appearance and under-eye bags.

Typically, our surgeon will make incisions outside the lower eyelids and remove any excess muscle, skin, or fat in the area that contributes to a negative appearance. We can customize this technique to your needs and address excess fat, skin, and muscle laxity as needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Is Blepharoplasty?

The technical term for eyelid surgery is blepharoplasty. This is a surgical procedure designed to improve the appearance of the eye area and reduce sagging skin resulting from genetics or the aging process. Some patients choose this procedure simply to address aesthetic concerns, while others choose it to address impaired vision. The skin around the eyes can sag and droop to the point that it impedes one’s vision, yet this procedure can restore vision and improve clarity.

What Does It Treat?

This procedure treats excess skin, fatty tissue, and muscle laxity resulting in an unattractive appearance of the eyes. It can also tighten the area, remove excess skin on the upper eyelids, and repair the under-eye area, especially when defined by excess skin and eye bags. It opens up the eyes, improves the vision that has suffered due to excess skin, and can increase one’s confidence in their appearance.

How Long Is the Procedure?

The total length of this procedure varies from one patient to the next. Different factors affect the length of the procedure, including the areas that need to be addressed, which techniques are used, and the severity of the patient’s condition. Those who choose to improve the appearance of both their upper and lower eyelids will endure a longer procedure. That being said, most patients will be in surgery anywhere from 45 minutes to two hours.

How Long Will My Results Last?

This procedure is intended to permanently improve the condition of the eyes. However, the aging process cannot be stopped, and because your face will change in the years following your procedure, you can expect the results from this procedure to last up to 15 years. If your eyes change to the degree that you are unhappy with their appearance, you may benefit from an additional eyelid procedure down the road.

How Can I Make My Results Last Longer?

Living a healthy lifestyle and caring for the skin around your eyes is the best way to prolong the results of this procedure. Once your procedure is complete, and your eyelids are healed, you should apply high-quality sunscreen daily. Additionally, you can protect your eye area by wearing sunglasses every time you are exposed to the sun.

Investing in a high-quality eye cream as well as other anti-aging skincare products specially designed for the eyes will help keep your tissues youthful and healthy. From eye creams to serums to moisturizing eye gel pads, there are many different products that you can apply daily or weekly to your eye area to keep the area moisturized, hydrated, and protected from the aging process.

Cosmetic Treatments

Scheduling other cosmetic treatments designed to improve the eye area can also help improve and maintain your appearance. Injectables like Botox can relax the muscles around the eyes to help prevent new wrinkles and temporarily erase old ones. Other non-invasive treatments like chemical peels and other treatments designed to improve the skin in this area will go a long way in helping you maintain your results for the longest amount of time.

Will My Vision Improve?

If sagging skin around your eyes and on your eyelids has begun to impair your vision, this procedure will address this concern. The benefit of eyelid surgery is that it can both improve aesthetic and vision-related concerns. However, it will only improve your vision if excess skin around the eyes is the reason for your vision problems.

It cannot improve vision loss that has resulted from glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, occlusions, or other medical problems unrelated to excess skin. A visit with your eye doctor is the best way to confirm that excess skin around the eyes is the primary cause of your vision loss.

How Many Kybella treatments Are Needed?

kybella treatments

Feeling confident about your appearance means feeling confident about every part of your appearance – including the area under your chin. The problem, however, is that many people grow self-conscious about their appearance when unwanted submental fat creates the appearance of a double chin. Fortunately, the aesthetic experts at ICT Eye in Wichita, KS know that Kybella treatments can reduce unwanted fat and help you feel confident again.

So, what do you need to know about this treatment? Kybella is a revolutionary injectable treatment and is currently the only injectable treatment approved by the FDA to reduce unwanted fat beneath the chin. Kybella is made with deoxycholic acid, a naturally-occurring acid in the body that is associated with breaking down fat to use as energy. Although new research is being conducted to assess how effective Kybella is for other areas of the body, the main purpose of treatment is to eliminate a double chin.

How Many Kybella Treatments Are Needed?

The number of Kybella treatments you will need will depend on the amount of submental fat you have. In general, most people will require at least three treatments to achieve optimal results. Three treatments are usually enough to eliminate the majority of fat cells beneath the chin, which will take several weeks. It’s typical to attend at least one additional appointment to assess the progress of your results and determine if you need any more treatments to achieve your desired goals.

Why Might Some People Need More Treatments?

Some people may require additional treatments. For example, those who have an exceptional amount of submental fat beneath the chin may require additional injections to destroy fat cells. Some people with moderate submental fat may need additional treatments because their fat cells are resistant to the treatment.

However, it should be noted that the outer limit of treatments you can receive is six. If you require more than six treatments, then it may be necessary to consider different treatment options, including surgical options. We will determine the number of Kybella treatments you will need to refine and slim your appearance.

Other Frequently Asked Questions

1. How Frequently Should You Have Kybella Treatments?

Your Kybella appointments will be spaced about four to six weeks apart. This frequency gives your body enough time to break down unwanted fat cells with the synthetic deoxycholic acid injection. Sometimes we determine your treatment frequency based on the speed of your progress; those who are seeing results more quickly do well with monthly treatments until optimal results are reached.

2. How Soon Does This Treatment Start Working?

Most people will start to notice the results of this treatment within as little as two sessions or 12 weeks, whichever is sooner. For a non-surgical and minimally-invasive treatment, the speed of the results of this injectable is impressive. The majority of patients using this treatment can see a significant drop in submental fat within two to three months on average.

If you only have a moderate amount of submental fat, you may notice results a bit sooner; those who have pronounced submental fat may require additional time to see any results of the treatment. The gradual nature of your treatment process is one of the reasons why this treatment produces natural-looking results.

3. How Long Do Results Last?

The results of this treatment are designed to last for several years: sometimes even as long as a lifetime. This is because fat cells are unlike any other cells in our body. While most cells, including skin cells, are capable of regenerating, fat cells that are destroyed can never come back. In fact, the only reason why fat seems to “grow” is that fat cells are exceptionally elastic and can expand to store more fat in the body.

Kybella treatments truly destroy fat cells with the deoxycholic acid solution. Fat cells that are destroyed by this injectable are naturally removed from the body through normal metabolism. And because the majority of fat cells exposed to this treatment are destroyed, the results of the treatment can last for a long time.

4. How Can You Maintain Your Results?

While the results of this treatment are supposed to be permanent, there is always the possibility that some fat cells beneath the chin will remain after your treatment. If there are any remaining fat cells, then they will be capable of storing more fat which can potentially undo the results of your treatment. For that reason, it’s a good idea to seek ways you can maintain your results and avoid any future development of submental fat. Some methods include:

Lead a Healthy Lifestyle

Leading a healthy and active lifestyle is the best way to maintain your results. A healthy lifestyle consists of eating a balanced diet low in processed foods, sugar, and sodium. By avoiding these foods, you can avoid your natural metabolism from storing fat from your food. You should also drink an adequate amount of water throughout the day since water helps filter out fat and sugar from the blood and makes it more difficult for your body to store fat.

An active lifestyle consists of getting enough exercise each week. The best exercise for maintaining your results is cardiovascular exercise, which is essentially any aerobic or anaerobic exercise that elevates your heart rate to over 140 to 150. Maintaining a high heart rate for at least 30 minutes a day is the best way to keep your metabolism active and limit your body’s ability to store fat. Some exercises include speed walking, jogging, running, dancing, cycling, swimming, or jump-roping.

Moderate Alcohol Intake

Moderating your alcohol intake is another way you can maintain your results. Alcohol converts to sugar in the body, which is then stored as fat if it isn’t burned off. The less alcohol you drink, the less you will be able to store extra fat in the body.

Reconsider Medications

Some medications have side-effects that are associated with weight gain. If you believe one of your medications is causing weight gain, then you should speak with your physician and consider alternative medications or other things you can do to limit any weight gain.

5. What Causes Submental Fat?

Fat beneath the chin, or submental fat, is a unique type of fat in the body and has a variety of contributing factors. For example, medications can be a significant cause of submental fat and weight gain. Other causes of submental fat include:

Genetics

Genetics is probably the leading cause of developing submental fat. Most people who have a double chin will have close blood relatives who also have a double chin. This is because the way your body stores fat is determined by your DNA, including where your body prefers to store fat. Genetic factors are one of the reasons why slim people may be prone to developing a double chin.

Weight Gain

Weight gain is another common cause of developing submental fat. Significant weight gain happens when your body is storing more calories than you burn. Weight gain can be associated with poor lifestyle choices and medical conditions, such as diabetes or obesity.

Pregnancy

Pregnancy is another common cause of submental fat. This is because hormonal changes during pregnancy alter the metabolism of the body, which can make it easier to store excess fat. Women who gain weight during pregnancy are more likely to develop unwanted submental fat along with fat in other areas of the body.

6. Does a Double Chin Mean You Are Overweight?

No, having a double chin does not automatically mean you are overweight. While there is certainly a link between weight gain and submental fat, the fact of the matter is that submental fat is present in most people to some degree. Many people who are athletic or slim may have fuller faces and double chins simply because of genetic factors.

7. Can a Double Chin Go Away on Its Own?

Yes and no. Sometimes, leading an active and healthy lifestyle, including losing weight, can shrink the size of a double chin. This is particularly true for people who seek to lose a significant amount of weight, which may mean that the face and neck will slim down over time.

However, not all double chins go away or shrink because of changes in diet or exercise. For many people, once a double chin puts down roots, it’s there to stay. Some double chins remain even when significant amounts of weight have been lost or changes in medication have been made. If you have tried to use natural methods to make reduce a double chin and those methods have not worked, then it’s unlikely your double chin will disappear without aesthetic intervention.

8. Is This Treatment Safe?

Yes, Kybella is a very safe treatment. Kybella has been approved by the FDA for several years, which means it has passed rigorous testing and clinical trials to be deemed a safe treatment for the majority of people who will use it. This treatment is considered safe largely because deoxycholic acid is a natural chemical in the body; even in synthetic form, deoxycholic acid poses little to no risk of negative side effects.

9. Why Should You Consider Kybella?

There are a few reasons why you may want to consider Kybella treatments. Beyond the fact that this treatment is non-surgical, minimally-invasive, and involves very little downtime, other benefits may include the long-lasting and natural-looking results of the treatment. Another significant benefit is the fact that this treatment is safe for virtually all people, regardless of age or gender.

This treatment can be completed within six months and produce fast results, sometimes as fast as two months. Kybella is also an ideal treatment for those who have a mild to moderate amount of submental fat, although those with severe double chins may also be eligible for treatment.

10. Who Are Good Candidates?

Most people with submental fat or double chins are good candidates for this treatment. The best candidates for Kybella include adults over the age of 18, women who are not pregnant or breastfeeding, and those who are not allergic to any of the ingredients in the injection. We can fully determine your candidacy for this treatment during a consultation appointment.

Start Your Treatments Today

Imagine getting rid of your double chin in as little as three treatments. Kybella is a one-of-a-kind treatment that can reduce moderate amounts of submental fat for most people. Does Microneedling Build Collagen?

does microneedling build collagen

Most of us can agree that looking good requires some effort, and that includes maintaining a strong skincare regimen. Are you even now looking for something new to build into that regimen – something sure to help you look more youthful? At Beautiful Eyes Customized Eyelid Surgery & Skin Enhancements in Wichita, KS, we recommend collagen induction therapy.

What Is Collagen Induction Therapy?

This therapy, routinely known as microneedling, simultaneously addresses multiple skin conditions. Among the most common are:

  • Scarring
  • Wrinkles
  • Discoloration/spots
  • Acne
  • Rosacea
  • Skin laxity

Our office uses the MD Needle Pen, made of stainless steel and designed to protect skin from damage. At the end of the pen are very fine needles used to cause trauma to the face via tiny micro-wounds. Those wounds are too small to be seen and are delivered in a precise, controlled manner to prompt the body’s natural healing responses.

Why This Is Beneficial

You’ve likely heard this before, but the body is chemically and biologically designed to heal itself. Modern medicine must take over when natural processes fall short, but that’s a discussion for another time.

In terms of repairing wounds – specifically those to the face – the body uses proteins to make new tissues. Chief among these proteins is collagen, and in turn,  new tissues have a firmer, stronger texture and more even tone. This is how microneedling delivers results, by cueing the body to turn over old, damaged skin cells and replace them with new. Visibly, you see skin that is fresher and more vibrant.

The Importance of Collagen

Now might be a good time to talk about collagen and why it’s so important to your appearance. Collagen, woven into a supple, flexible network of fibers with the aid of vitamin C, comprises 80 percent of the skin. While the body produces this fiber throughout our lives, it does so at a reduced capacity starting in our mid-20s.

In mathematical terms, we lose about 1 percent of collagen every year after age 25. Skin subsequently grows thinner and weaker, with results showing gradually until you one day realize you’ve lost both tightness and volume in your face.

Does Microneedling Build Collagen?

Many over-the-counter products, including supplements, creams, and serums, promise to help build collagen. Unfortunately, these products typically fail to deliver. Topical remedies tend to sit on the skin’s surface, and ingested proteins commonly get used by other body parts before finally reaching the skin. By that point, not enough of the protein remains to help maintain healthy skin.

Microneedling, however, is designed to specifically address skin concerns. By applying the derma-roller to the face, collagen production is stimulated in that precise area. So the answer to our overarching question – does microneedling build collagen – is yes, and science supports this claim.

The Evidence

In 2018, a paper published on microneedling research found the treatment to be safe and effective for reducing wrinkles and scars. The American Academy of Dermatology further states microneedling can help minimize pores.

How It Works

Microneedling is known as a fractional treatment. This means it affects only a portion of the skin; tissues around each micro-wound are left unharmed to speed up recovery time. In addition, microneedling does not penetrate deep into the skin, so you won’t experience much more than a drop or two of blood during treatment.

We’ve already explained that collagen becomes more plentiful as the face heals. Elastin – just as important to healthy and youthful-looking skin as collagen – also increases. This protein is woven into the same cellular matrix as collagen. It allows skin to retain its shape while also moving and stretching; without elastin, skin sags and loses its plump appearance.

What to Expect

Your collagen induction therapy session will take between 60 and 75 minutes. In most cases, we apply a topical anesthetic before treatment starts to keep you comfortable. We would like to point out, however, this therapy is very well tolerated, and because it’s non-invasive, you don’t need to worry about the complications associated with surgery.

The therapy itself takes just over 30 minutes to complete, although this estimate varies depending on the treatment area. Once we’re finished with the microneedling, we will apply a calming ointment to your face to promote healing.

Before Therapy

To prepare for treatment, we recommend you take a few steps:

  • Do not shave the day of treatment
  • Stop using retinoid products at least two days prior
  • Don’t wax or use depilatory creams on the treatment area at least a week prior
  • Stop blood-thinning agents at least one week prior
  • Avoid unprotected sun exposure at least two weeks prior

After Treatment

Collagen induction therapy requires little downtime. The night of treatment, we recommend using tepid water and a gentle cleanser to wash your face. Use your hands or a light towel to pat skin dry so you don’t rub and cause irritation. With this in mind, always remember to clean your hands before touching your face.

It’s important that you avoid ibuprofen for at least a week after treatment. The healing process depends on natural inflammatory reactions that stimulate new cell growth. Medications like ibuprofen suppress these responses and may delay your recovery and/or negatively impact your results.

Peeling Is Normal

Around three to five days after treatment, you will begin to notice peeling. This is not only normal but also a critical part of your body’s healing process. The peeling reflects cell turnover; as old skin cells die, they’re naturally sloughed off so new ones can surface and become visible.

Once peeling begins, it’s crucial that you not scratch or pick your face. Instead, let the body push away dead skin cells on its own. Use a thick, nourishing moisturizer to reduce itching and keep emerging skin cells healthy. If you need help in choosing a face cream, please let our staff know.

Extra Precautions

So your skin can breathe, we suggest going bare-faced for 24 to 72 hours. This means no makeup, and especially no makeup brushes. Before you do start using cosmetics again, we recommend washing or replacing all of your current brushes to avoid bacteria transfer. Also, steer clear of products that can clog your pores. We recommend mineral makeup once your three days have passed.

After treatment, you’ll need to stay out of the sun for at least two weeks. When you are outside, wear a hat and use sunblock. Avoid activities that cause sweating for 48 hours, and keep your head elevated when sleeping to further promote healing.

Reasons to Have Microneedling

Rosacea

This skin condition is characterized by skin thickening and a ruddy complexion. It is caused by a rapid collagen breakdown, meaning it can be improved with microneedling. After treatment, your skin will appear less irritated and less inflamed.

Wrinkles and Fine Lines

These are the concerns patients most commonly address with microneedling. Several treatment sessions can visibly reduce the appearance of crow’s feet, deep horizontal wrinkles in the forehead, and fine lines around the mouth.

Because this therapy works with the body’s natural healing techniques, results are very natural. You’ll look considerably younger, but others won’t be able to tell you’ve undergone therapy.

Skincare

Immediately after treatment, the micro-holes in your skin are primed to receive skincare products and deliver them deeper below the skin’s surface. This can dramatically improve their efficacy, especially when speaking of anti-aging and anti-acne serums. Sticking to a regular regimen can further improve your skin’s appearance.

Pores

As collagen production revs, your skin naturally becomes plumper. This helps give you a more lifted and healthier appearance, but it also helps shrink pores. Even the largest and most visible of pores can seemingly disappear as surrounding tissues gain volume. This is an unexpected boon for patients who want to refine their complexions.

Skin Tone

Speaking of complexions, your skin is constantly being battered by UV rays, toxins in the air, and unhealthy ingredients in processed foods. You may not even realize it, but over time, you begin to lose a youthful glow and instead acquire a dull skin tone. But thanks to renewed collagen growth, you’ll see an improvement in clarity that brings with it a natural radiance.

These effects extend to reversing the signs of sun damage and hyperpigmentation. Again, this comes as a result of higher collagen levels.

Microneedling vs Other Treatments

While the effects of this therapy are comparable to laser treatments and chemical peels, microneedling comes with fewer side effects. Essentially, this boils down to less downtime and a decreased risk for developing hyperpigmentation.

With microneedling, you can start to see results in just three days; laser requires up to 10 days, and peels can take between two and three weeks. Full results also show more quickly with microneedling, and for treating acne scars, it was determined to be more effective and better tolerated than laser by the Dermatologic Surgery journal.

Home Remedies

According to Harvard Health Online, patients experience between 45 and 55 percent improvement in the appearance of their skin after a treatment. This is a highly specialized therapy that requires clinical delivery to ensure results. Some patients ask if it’s possible to acquire the same results from home microneedling as that provided by our office. The answer is an emphatic no.

Attempting to microneedle at home is not only ineffective, but it can also make you susceptible to bacterial infections caused by dirty equipment. By coming into our office, you receive:

  • Professional treatment
  • Comfortable processes
  • Safe and effective delivery

Important Considerations

Patients tend to ask if microneedling is safe for sensitive skin. We want to reassure you that it is. This therapy is in fact safe for most patients, excepting those with open wounds and/or cystic acne on their faces. When you come into our office for your consultation appointment, we can discuss this in further detail.

Another common concern is the safety of using microneedling near the eyes. This therapy can be used across the face, lending it another advantage over many other therapies. Finally, when patients ask how many treatments they will need, we explain it depends on your treatment area and goals. A helpful guideline is this: the most effective results show after two or three treatments, with maintenance sessions scheduled regularly thereafter.

Look Your Best

Collagen induction therapy helps you look your best by safely and effectively reducing wrinkles, scars, discoloration, and pores. It’s well-tolerated by most patients and gentle enough for all skin types and tones. What is Collagen Induction?

Are you preoccupied with common skin concerns like lines, wrinkles, sun damage, and acne? Are you seeking a skincare treatment that can quickly improve the appearance, health, and vibrancy of your skin? If so, you could benefit from collagen induction therapy at ICT Eye in Wichita, KS. This innovative rejuvenation technique could provide long-lasting or even permanent transformation in your skin and boost your self-esteem in just a few treatments.

What Is Collagen Induction Therapy?

Collagen induction therapy, also known as microneedling in the beauty world, is a skin treatment designed to stimulate fresh collagen growth and repair the skin from the inside-out. At our office, we use the MD Needle Pen to complete your microneedling treatment. This handheld device includes tiny, sterile needles in its head that create micro-wounds in the top layers of the skin.

As soon as your skin is treated, your body begins its comprehensive healing process in response to the micro-wounds. This includes an increase in collagen production to tighten and repair the skin. Over the course of several weeks, this new collagen growth helps correct a number of common skin conditions and concerns. Repeated treatments can help you maintain your ideal image by keeping your skin smooth and bright for years to come.

A normal microneedling appointment lasts 30-60 minutes, depending on the areas treated. Once the collagen induction therapy process is complete, you have the option of combining treatment with a nourishing serum or skincare product to further target your specific concerns. Even better, your favorite at-home skincare treatments will be more effective thanks to the small channels created into the lower layers of the skin.

How Long Does It Take to See Results?

Each patient’s experience and results are unique, but the vast majority of candidates for collagen induction therapy achieve noticeable, attractive results from their treatment plan. Due to the collagen growth process that begins after treatment, final results typically take 4-6 weeks to appear. These results can often be enhanced by follow-up sessions and targeted skincare products to meet all your cosmetic needs.

How Can Collagen Transform My Skin?

It’s no secret that collagen is one of the most important parts of smooth, youthful skin. This essential protein helps create an interior framework in the multiple layers of your skin, keeping the surface of the skin firm and lifted. In combination with elastin, collagen helps your skin maintain its structure and natural glow.

During the aging process, collagen and elastin production levels drop and the existing framework in the skin begins to break down. This can lead to the development of fine lines, wrinkles, folds, and skin laxity. These concerns only worsen over time and may begin appearing in the skin as early as the mid to late 20s, prompting patients to seek out an easy, non-invasive treatment option that can help manage signs of aging even before middle age.

Collagen induction therapy helps naturally raise your body’s collagen production levels and creates a new framework in the target skin. Your results from a single treatment could last for months, while a personalized treatment plan can offer you indefinite skin rejuvenation benefits as you return for regular treatments. Over time, regular collagen production triggered by your treatment can improve your skin concerns and keep signs of aging at bay.

Which Areas Can Be Treated?

This treatment can benefit almost every area of the body. The most commonly treated regions are the face–including the forehead, nose, midface, and jawline–and the chest. However, you may also see excellent results on the neck, hands, thighs, and various problem areas on other parts of the body.

Which Skin Concerns Can You Address?

The body’s healing process can improve a wide variety of skin and aging-related concerns. Here are several of the most popular skin concerns we treat at our office:

Acne

While acne breakouts typically first appear during puberty, this skin condition can affect patients well into their 30s. There are many different root causes for acne, but almost every type can be significantly improved with microneedling treatments. In addition, the micro-channels in the skin help anti-acne products reach the lower layers of the skin and target acne breakouts at their source.

Lines, Wrinkles, and Skin Laxity

Fine lines and wrinkles are a common side effect of collagen breakdown in the skin. They can develop in the skin all over the body, but most patients are most concerned by lines and wrinkles on the face, neck, and chest. Similarly, skin laxity can cause the skin to sag in certain areas, making you appear older or more tired than you actually are. Microneedling treatments can improve mild to moderate lines and wrinkles as well as mild skin laxity.

Sun Damage

While most patients think that sun damage only entails temporary issues like sunburn, the reality is that sun damage can worsen approximately 90% of all common skin concerns. It may accelerate aging and can lead to the development of serious conditions like skin cancer.

While the best way to prevent sun damage is to practice healthy sun protection habits, microneedling can improve some types of sun damage, including discoloration.

Tone and Texture

Many patients find themselves dissatisfied with the overall tone or texture of their skin. This could be due to conditions like rosacea or hyperpigmentation, which cause discoloration in the skin. It could also be connected to acne, dryness, or oil levels in the skin.

An uneven skin tone or dull texture can be difficult to address with topical treatments, but microneedling gets beneath the surface to promote regeneration and achieve a more even appearance.

Scars and Stretch Marks

Imperfections like scars and stretch marks can appear anywhere on the body. While the appearance of these concerns may improve with time, collagen induction therapy can help accelerate the healing process and fade scars and stretch marks in a matter of months.

Depending on your specific concerns, we can treat acne scars on the face and neck, old scars from previous injuries or surgeries, and stretch marks on the thighs or abdomen.

How Long Will My Results Last?

The longevity of your treatment depends on several factors, including your personalized treatment plan, skin type, and areas of concern. Some issues, including sun damage, scars, and stretch marks, could be permanently improved after treatment. Other progressive issues, such as signs of aging, may require ongoing treatments to maintain your ideal image.

On average, each appointment produces results lasting 6-12 weeks. After this time period, you may notice your signs of concern returning. Ongoing treatments can help build on the success of each previous appointment and reinforce collagen structure in the skin.

Am I an Ideal Candidate?

If you are a man or woman over the age of 18 with general concerns about the appearance, texture, or health of your skin, you could be an ideal candidate for treatment with microneedling. In order to receive treatment, you should be generally healthy and free from signs of infection or irritation in the target skin.

Treatment is considered safe and effective for most skin colors, types, and sensitivities, but it may not be ideal for those with severe sensitivity issues. This treatment may not be ideal for patients with diagnosed bleeding disorders. It may not be recommended for patients with cystic acne or active acne breakouts.

Finally, microneedling may not be ideal for patients with certain skin conditions like eczema, which may be exacerbated by the treatment process. If you’re not sure whether this treatment is for you, our doctor can help you evaluate your concerns during an initial consultation.

What Does a Typical Treatment Process Include?

Consultation

To begin your treatment process, you’ll meet with our skilled doctor for an initial consultation. During this appointment, our doctor will examine your areas of concern, review your medical and skincare history, and ask you about your ideal results from treatment.

Once you are approved for microneedling, our doctor will recommend a personalized treatment plan and give you instructions for preparing for your first appointment.

Preparation

This treatment requires your skin to be as clean and healthy as possible. You should avoid irritating products and treatments like exfoliants, peels, laser resurfacing, and some forms of hair removal for at least 1 week before treatment.

You should also limit your sun exposure and avoid sunburn and tanning prior to your first appointment to minimize irritation in the target skin. Our doctor may ask you to stop taking some blood-thinning medications 1-2 weeks before your appointment to reduce your risk of bruising during recovery.

You should also stop drinking alcoholic beverages at least 24 hours before your treatment. Any other instructions provided by our doctor should be followed carefully to ensure the best results possible from your first microneedling session.

Treatment

Before your appointment, you should wash and dry the target skin and avoid applying any makeup or skincare products. Once you arrive at our office, one of our trained staff members will cleanse your skin and apply a topical numbing cream. They will then activate the MD Needle Pen to begin the microneedling process. Most patients report that their treatment is virtually pain-free.

Your session may last between 30-60 minutes in total, but this will depend on the number and sizes of the areas treated. Once our staff has completed the treatment process, they will apply a post-treatment serum or moisturizer to flush the skin with nutrients as it begins to heal. They will also provide you with instructions for your recovery. After your appointment, you can return to your normal activities with zero downtime.

Recovery

As your skin begins to heal, it’s important to protect the treated areas from irritation. This includes limiting your time in direct sunlight and avoiding treatments that could cause inflammation. In general, most patients report that their skin feels back to normal within 1-2 weeks of treatment. Over the next several weeks, you should notice that your areas of concern continue to improve as new collagen lifts and smooths the skin.

Results

Your final results should be visible within 4-6 weeks of your first treatment. Depending on your original concerns, you may notice that your skin is smoother, brighter, and clearer than before. Signs of aging should be noticeably improved, and imperfections like scars, discoloration, or acne should be faded.

Final results usually last 6-12 weeks, with the added benefit of a new collagen framework lasting several months beyond this. Once their results begin to diminish, most patients schedule their first follow-up appointment to maintain their ideal image.

How Does PanOptix Work?

PanOptix

After cataract surgery, most patients will need the help of an artificial lens in order to see properly. The problem is that many artificial lenses that are available are mono-focal and can only focus at a certain distance. This means that the patient will sacrifice seeing clearly at one distance if they want to see clearly in another. Our team at ICT Eye in Wichita, KS offers PanOptix as a lens solution that doesn’t require that sacrifice.

How Does PanOptix Work?

A Trifocal Lens Means No Compromise

A PanOptix lens can offer clear, 20/20 near, intermediate, and distance vision. The first way this is done is by maximizing the use of light. At 3mm pupil size, it offers 88% total light utilization. This high percentage means that more light is reaching the retina. When combined with a 4.5mm diffractive zone, which reduces its dependence on pupil size, this trifocal lens offers excellent results in a range of lighting conditions.

The second way this lens offers great results is through its groundbreaking use of focal points. An additional focal point was created at the intermediate vision distance of 120 centimeters, or right around four feet. Then, this focal point’s light energy was redirected, which created near, intermediate, and distant focal points, all in one powerful lens.

Near Vision

Near vision is what allows you to read a book or look down at your cell phone. Mono-focal lenses are usually focused at far distances, which means that you would need to rely on glasses for anything that requires near vision.

A trifocal lens means that you won’t have to worry about scrambling for glasses when you want to read a text or look at something friends or family are trying to show you. You’ll be able to see those fine details on your own, which can offer a greater sense of independence.

Intermediate Vision

Intermediate vision comes into play when you’re doing anything at arm’s length. Things like working on your computer, shaving, or cooking may fall into this category. Intermediate vision plays a key role in our daily lives. Having a clear intermediate vision can help you both at work, as well as when you are enjoying your favorite activities.

Distance Vision

Distance vision helps you when it comes to driving, cycling, watching a movie, or enjoying a beautiful view. Having a sharp and clear image at a distance can help you continue to enjoy the world around you to its fullest. Being able to freely drive yourself to your own activities, soak in the scenery on a hike, or play a vigorous game of frisbee without a second thought is an experience we want to help provide for our patients.

It Can Offer Independence From Relying on Glasses for Daily Life

When patients who have never had to wear glasses before are faced with cataract surgery, it can make them feel as though they have lost something. A trifocal lens can make cataract surgery more of a bump along the road than a life-altering event. By using a trifocal lens, the goal is to replicate your vision so you can continue on with your life, instead of having to alter your life around your surgery.

It Can Correct Astigmatism

Astigmatism is extremely common. In fact, it can affect about one in every three people in the US. It can be caused by having a natural lens that isn’t functioning exactly as it should, either due to shape or how it curves inside of the eye. It is usually a hereditary condition, but it can also be caused by an injury or surgery. It is also something that can change over time.

The most common symptom of astigmatism is blurred vision, which can be present at any or even all distances. It can also cause headaches or some eye discomfort. The good news is that a trifocal lens can offer a safe treatment option for astigmatism. If your pre-existing astigmatism condition is under one diopter, you may be able to pursue a trifocal lens as a treatment option.

It Can Mitigate Presbyopia

Presbyopia is farsightedness caused by the eye losing its ability to focus on objects that are close to it. Someone with presbyopia may notice they have to hold their phone or their book back at an arms-length in order to make out the letters. Previously, reading glasses or bifocals were seen as the best way to handle presbyopia.

What if there was a way to reduce or completely remove your need for reading glasses due to presbyopia? PanOptix is just that. It was designed with presbyopia in mind, making it an appealing treatment option for patients who are tired of relying on reading glasses. In an increasingly digital world, trifocal lenses can help you stay connected with your loved ones and stay on top of work with ease.

Protect Your Eyes With Blue Light and UV Filtering Technology

It’s been known for a while now that sunlight can have a harmful effect on vision over time, especially in cases of heavy, unprotected exposure. There are also some studies that indicate extended blue light exposure could potentially have a damaging effect on the retinal cells of our eyes.

The technology offered by Alcon’s intraocular lens strives to offer protection from both potential sources of damage. With blue light filtering and UV protection, not only does this lens offer a sharper image than much of its competition, but it can help protect the overall welfare of your eyes and your vision at the same time.

FAQ for PanOptix

1. What Are the Alternatives?

Since an artificial lens is very often required after cataract surgery, a mono-focal lens is an available alternative to a trifocal lens. The use of a mono-focal lens has been the norm for a long time, but as lens technology continues to develop, the trifocal lens can offer the same distance vision benefits as a mono-focal lens without compromising near or intermediate vision.

Since mono-focal lens are usually focused on distant vision, they will likely be paired with the use of glasses for near and intermediate vision. A trifocal lens streamlines the process by providing all three focal points in one package, so you won’t need multiple tools to maintain your vision.

2. Who Is an Ideal Candidate?

If you have undergone cataract surgery and you don’t want to rely on glasses, you may be a good candidate for a trifocal lens. Aside from cataracts, your eyes should ideally be in good health to give you the best chance at reducing or eliminating your reliance on glasses. During a consultation, we’ll be able to determine your eligibility and discuss all your options, so you can make a clear, educated decision on what’s right for you.

3. What Can I Expect When I Get a PanOptix Len Replacement?

Just like with any other intraocular lens, this trifocal lens serves as a replacement for the natural lens you were born with. Minor surgery is required to put it in place. This surgery is an outpatient procedure, and can usually be completed within 10 to 20 minutes.

Most patients rest for a couple of hours after surgery. For 24 hours after its placement, it’s recommended that you don’t drive. Make sure you have a means of transportation back to your home.

Before Surgery

Before a lens replacement, you’ll have a consultation to go over all your options and to make sure that a trifocal lens is the right fit for you. During this time, we can answer any of your questions and concerns, to make sure you feel confident and comfortable. Before the procedure begins, your pupils will be dilated, and you will receive an anesthetic.

During Surgery

The incisions involved in this surgery are quite small. This surgery is performed so routinely in the US, that it is considered one of the safest and most effective procedures in medicine. After the lens is implanted and you’ve had time to rest and be monitored, you’ll be good to go. Many patients are surprised by how easy the whole process is.

Recovery Time

Each case is individual, but many patients notice an immediate improvement to their vision. You may be asked to wear a protective shield over your eye for a few days. After your eye has healed from surgery, your vision will continue to clear and improve as you adjust to your new lens. Usually, one eye is done at a time. This gives patients time for their treated eye to adjust before the other eye receives treatment.

4. How Long Does It Last?

One of the reasons we are proud to offer this durable trifocal lens is that they are expected to last a lifetime. The fact that a routine lens replacement can mean better vision for the rest of our patients’ lives is something worth celebrating.

5. Will I Have To Reschedule Travel Plans After Treatment?

If you are planning to go on a trip the day of your treatment, it may be best to hold off. Otherwise, most patients can fly or drive within a few days. Of course, it’s very important to keep in mind that your recovery time will not necessarily follow a certain rule book.

If you have a long-standing trip planned, let us know about it in your consultation, and we can talk about whether it’s better to wait or not.

6. What About Exercise?

For the first couple of weeks following your surgery, it’s generally best to avoid strenuous activity, such as heavy lifting. Light activity will be able to be resumed earlier than more strenuous exercise.

As you recover, we will be able to give you the green light to resume those activities when it is safe to do so. When in doubt, please feel free to bring up your favorite activities so we can be on top of helping you establish a timeline for them.

7. Is There Anything Else I Should Avoid After Surgery?

We recommend that you avoid dust after surgery, to prevent eye irritation. Hold off on swimming so the risk of water getting in your eye is minimized, and don’t rub your eyes as they are healing. Wearing sunglasses while outside will offer additional protection against UV rays, and will help you stay comfortable if your eyes are sensitive to sunlight.

Most patients are able to schedule their injection sessions during their lunch hour and immediately return to their normal routines after treatment.

Laser Skin Rejuvenation

How many skin concerns do you have? One or two – possibly more? If you have a lot of skin concerns to contend with, then you’re likely searching for a treatment that can tackle a lot of them at once. At ICT Eye in Wichita, KS, our skilled aestheticians know the solution for multiple skin concerns is an all-in-one treatment with laser skin rejuvenation. The only remaining question is finding the laser treatment that’s right for you.

Which Facial Laser Treatment Is the Best?

In the world of aesthetic treatments, there are dozens of facial laser treatments to choose from and each is just as effective as the last, so it can be hard for you, the patient, to choose the right laser treatment right for you.

But in general, the facial laser treatment that is right for you will depend on your skin needs and your aesthetic goals, as well as what you’re willing to live with in terms of recovery. For some patients, that means IPL laser treatments, and for others, that means Pixel laser treatments.

How Do All Laser Treatments Work?

Laser treatments utilize advanced technology to resurface the skin, healing skin concerns from the inside out. In fact, the entire purpose behind laser treatments is to resurface the skin. For you, this means that after you heal from the treatment, you will have new skin that has not been touched by sun damage or other types of blemishes.

Laser skin resurfacing happens when your skin is exposed to light or thermal energy. Your skin cells each absorb enough of this energy that the existing skin cells are encouraged to escalate skin cell turnover, which helps your body shed the skin that is damaged by your skin concerns. In other words, laser skin resurfacing is the cosmetic treatment equivalent to starting with a fresh canvas – or a fresh face.

Explaining Skin Resurfacing

Skin resurfacing with laser treatments is all about re-writing the history of your skin. It’s sometimes the case that our skin concerns are a little more than skin-deep, with some concerns finding roots in the sub-dermal layers of our skin; when the root problem of our skin concerns is deeper, superficial skin treatments are not usually adequate enough to totally rejuvenate the skin.

Skin resurfacing works off the basic principle that new skin is better than old. This is mainly done through rewriting your natural skin cell turnover, which is the cycle of how quickly your skin sheds and creates new skin cells. When you rewrite the natural pace of this turnover, and when you use a treatment that can reach deeper skin cells, you can more comprehensively refresh the appearance of your skin and turn back the clock.

Ablative vs Non-Ablative

For laser skin resurfacing treatments, there are two main types of laser treatments, so regardless of whether your treatment uses light pulses or lasers, you need to know the difference between ablative and non-ablative and what each type of treatment can do for you.

Ablative treatments are those that injure the skin in a controlled way that reaches deeper skin cells to completely resurface your skin, right down to the deepest skin cell possible. Ablative treatments can be helpful for treating scars, deep and dynamic wrinkles, and many other skin concerns. Non-ablative treatments, on the other hand, do not injure the skin, but they are still powerful enough to encourage quicker skin cell turnover. Non-ablative treatments are friendlier to the skin and generally more versatile, which makes them perfect for handling superficial skin concerns.

What Are Your Facial Laser Treatment Options?

At ICT Eye in Wichita, KS, we have a few laser treatments to offer our patients. Each of these laser treatments is ideal for addressing certain skin concerns, which means there is surely a perfect laser treatment for you. Our laser treatment options include IPL, Pixel, and 180 Laser.

IPL

IPL treatments are the current darlings of laser skin resurfacing treatments due to how customizable the treatment is. IPL treatments use different strengths and wavelengths of colored lights to target specific colors, bacteria, and elements in your skin. When your skin is exposed to the intense pulse lights, it responds by minimizing or erasing your skin concerns.

Advantages of IPL

IPL treatments are incredibly dynamic – these treatments can be used for everything from resurfacing photofacials to laser hair removal. From reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, diminishing blemishes and dark spots, and evening skin tone and texture, IPL treatments are a non-ablative and skin-friendly option for those who have general skin concerns.

IPL treatments are also particularly helpful for patients who struggle with acne. This is because IPL treatments can kill acne-causing bacteria on the surface of the skin, encourage better skin cell turnover so bacteria and oil won’t be caught on the skin, and can also help reduce the appearance of acne scarring – both post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation and atrophic acne scars.

Pixel

Pixel is a more classic approach to laser skin resurfacing treatments. Using the power of a fractional laser, this treatment uses genuine laser technology to address every microscopic portion of your skin for an all-over treatment that can be a powerful tool for both general and targeted treatments. The fact that this treatment uses fractional lasers means that it won’t cause any significant damage to your skin – and that the laser energy will certainly touch every problematic skin cell on your face.

Advantages of Pixel

Pixel is a powerful laser treatment that can address a wide range of general and age-related concerns. Pixel’s super-charged approach deftly addresses a wide range of skin concerns, from tightening and smoothing skin texture, to reducing the appearance of scars – or eliminating scars entirely. Pixel is particularly helpful for addressing sun damage, which can both prematurely age skin and create long-lasting damage, such as broken capillaries on the face.

180 Laser

While both IPL and Pixel lasers each have their own niche, it can sometimes be the case that your skin needs a multi-lateral treatment approach to truly resurface and refresh the appearance of your skin. That’s where 180 laser comes in – this is a laser skin resurfacing treatment that combines both IPL and fractional laser technology to deliver a powerful, completely rejuvenating treatment.

Advantages of 180 Laser

The fact that 180 Laser combines two technologies makes it much easier to address multiple skin concerns at once. For example, those who suffer from both acne and deep acne scars may benefit from 180 Laser, since this treatment can kill acne-causing bacteria and resurface acne scarring (even serious scarring) at the same time. Moreover, 180 Laser is comprehensive enough to deal with challenging skin concerns, such as rosacea.

Which One Is Best for You?

The fact of the matter is the right laser treatment for you is something that can only be determined by your skin and your needs. One of the most important considerations for deciding between treatments is the severity of your skin-related concerns. For example, if you only have mild superficial concerns, you wouldn’t need to use the more powerful treatment option; likewise, if you have moderate appearance concerns, then you are better off using laser treatments that are designed for moderate concerns.

Narrow Your Treatment by Treatment Goals

If your level of skin concerns isn’t enough of a guidepost, you can always select your treatment based on your skin goals. For instance, IPL treatments are probably ideal for you if you have mild superficial concerns that center on correcting the tone and overall appearance of the skin. Likewise, you may want to choose Pixel treatments for specific age-related concerns, as this treatment is ideal for addressing texture issues. And of course, 180 Laser is the best choice of all three if you have multi-layered skin concerns that require a combination approach.

How Should You Prepare for Laser Skin Rejuvenation?

Laser skin rejuvenation treatments involve a high amount of energy being exposed directly to your skin, so if you want to achieve your goal results, you will need to adequately prepare for your treatments.

In a practical sense, this means that you need to avoid direct sun exposure for two weeks before your appointment, including the use of tanning beds. If you do have to be outside, be sure you are using enough sun protection. Protecting your skin from sun exposure right before your appointment will ensure that your skin is not damaged from the laser exposure.

Do Laser Skin Treatments Hurt?

A laser is a powerful tool, so you should expect some amount of sensation while your skin is being treated. Depending on the type of laser treatment, patients compare the sensation to cat scratches, heat, or snapping rubber bands. For this reason, we sometimes recommend that patients use over-the-counter pain relievers prior to the start of their appointment. At patient request, we may also apply a topical numbing cream to ensure your comfort for the duration of the treatment.

What Is Recovery Like?

Your recovery time will take about two to three weeks, so during this time, it’s important that you follow the aftercare instructions you are given at the time of your appointment. During your recovery, it’s important that you continue to avoid direct unprotected sunlight, including tanning beds, and to wear adequate sun protection of at least SPF 30 or greater.

Your recovery will involve some skin peeling as your skin cells turnover, so it’s also important that you keep your skin moisturized during this time. Many patients supplement their normal moisturizers with aloe vera to speed up healing.

How Many Treatments Will You Need?

You will likely require multiple treatments to achieve your aesthetic goals. For most patients, this means you will require about four to six treatments, usually spaced four weeks apart, to achieve your final results.

How Do You Maintain Results?

Maintaining your results is as simple as staying on top of your skincare routine to prevent any future aging or other skin concerns from popping up. We can help point you in the right direction of the skincare products that are ideal for your skin concerns and will provide your skin with the tools it needs to prevent aging, acne, and sun damage.

Are You a Good Candidate?

Most people are good candidates for this treatment, particularly if other cosmetic treatments have not produced their desired results. If you have one or more skin concerns to correct, then you are most likely a good candidate for laser skin rejuvenation treatments.
